The fruit bodies consist of a cap and, as a rule, a central stem, the common and partial covers are absent. Some species (L. deliciosus, L. pubescens, L. turpis) form stocky fruit bodies with a relatively thick stem, which may be approximately equal in height or less than the cap diameter. There are also species that form fruit bodies with a long narrow stem and a relatively small hat (L. camphoratus, L. lignyotus). For most of the crayfish, the hymn-carp type of development of fruit bodies is characteristic when the hymenial layer is open from the moment of its formation, as evidenced by the absence of a private veil . Carpophores themselves are short-lived - live up to 10-15 days, then rot.
The cap is on average up to 8 cm in diameter, however, in old carpophores it can reach very significant values - 30 (L. controversus) or 40 cm (L. vellereus). In young specimens, the cap edges adjoins to the stem, then expands to a flat, flat-concave, or funnel-shaped; can often be dented in the center and with a turned edge. Sometimes in the center there may be a more or less pronounced ostro- or dull-conical tubercle (L. helvus, L. mammosus). The edge of the cap, as a rule, is even, sometimes wavy; smooth, hairy, fringed or distinctly hairy.
